BADLAND

In 2005 Syrinx got the chance to compose its first feature film for movie theatres – Badland.

From the first moment on, when the team read the script it was clear that this movie strove for highest cinematographic quality at the same time dealing with a very complex and difficult topic.

The feature film shows in a dramatic

way how the former soldier Jerry takes on a downwards drift in live after he returns from the Iraq war. For the sensitive father of three children, the values of the American society – God, Family and Achievement – are not right anymore. His environment and also he himself thinks that he is a loser even though he lives already in the social underclass of America. The pressure gets higher and the hate becomes stronger – emphasizing the hopelessness in his live.

His marriage is shattered and only in his little daughter Celina he finds love and comfort. The catastrophe happens as he realizes that not only his boss but also his pregnant wife is betraying him.

Badland is an up-to-date critic on American society – cinematographic in first line with the best independent movies. Tight dialogs and reduced pictures, which totally captivate the viewer, characterize this great and epic melodrama.

The composition of storyline, music and camera is balanced and artistically merged to a vividly but necessary violent pleading against war and its consequences for the people in the U.S.

Through the amazing play of the nine-year old Celina (Grace Fulton) the movie shows at the same time, and in a very sensitive and affectionate way, the true meaning of humanity and love.

Producer, writer and director Francesco Lucente stayed many weeks at the Syrinx studios to create every detail of the composition exactly how he had it in mind. Regarding his work with Syrinx he said:
„We connected in a »love at first site« kind of way. The experience was indelible and truly life changing. Martin Roggon's sound design, Benedikt Gaussling's dialogue editing and Jonas Brommer's surround designs were precise and extremely evocative. Under the guidance of Hjoerdis Steiner and Dirk Lachmann, the process moved smoothly and efficiently. And finally, Marcus Herzog's pitch perfect »pure« sense of music and effects and dialogue mixing generated a tremendously affecting sound track. Their contributions to sound design, dialogue editing and finally, the full 5:1 Surround mix was stunning and revolutionary.“

After the preview, the comments of the audience were enthusiastic: "shaking", "enthralling", "best movie, I’ve ever seen". The Syrinx team is very proud to be part of the crew that created this amazing piece of work. At the same time everybody at Syrinx hopes that the next European showing of the feature film will be at the Festival de Cannes!
