THE TEN TENORS with the Orchestra of RTVE, Madrid

July 2009 - The famous australian vocal group spent 3 days at Madrid to record some songs together with the Symphony Orchestra of RTVE.
Warner Music Germany sent Tonmeister Marcus Herzog to Madrid, in order to make sure - by pouring in a dash of german "Gruendlichkeit" and some extra microphones - the music recording fits the needs for a CD and DVD release. This turned out to be a real challenge, especially the search for audio equipment in Madrid (all equipment rental companies being completely booked in the high season of spanish rock fesivals), the language barrier and the extremly tight session times - due to that the last song had to be recorded without the orchestra, which had left the stage.

Thanks to the tireless efforts of Txema Rosique of Warner Music Spain and the calm expert knowledge of Fernando Duhalde every piece of equipment needed was in place and running at the beginning of the first session.

It was a new experience for the TENORS, this kind of nearly-live-production: without audience and amplification but with full orchestra in their back. They are all fabulous singers with an extremely well balanced ensemle sound and perfect proficiency. So even with the few songs, which could be recorded only one time everything was musically perfect. A great recording was made.

From an E-mail from D.-J. Wendt, Managing Director of the group:

"Marcus, what you you achieved in Spain was phenomenal and the end result is something that we are all so pleased with and so very proud of, it is hard to believe it is a live recording. Your technical expertise in placing microphones and your attention to detail are second to none. I think it will go a long way to legitimizing this group in a sea of other possible contenders as one of, if not, the finest classical crossover group in the market place today. On top of all of this you are a great guy and a pleasure to work with."

Thanks D-J!
